Gut Health do’s & don’ts

What we eat directly influences the makeup of the bacteria in our gut. Our gut impacts the quality of our health, so we want to maintain a healthy one. Foods we want to consume more of are probiotics, prebiotic's, fiber, and fermented foods. Things we want to consume less of are red meats, sugar, processed foods, and alcohol. Eating probiotics adds the good bacteria to your gut, probiotics can be found in fermented food like kimchi, sauerkraut, and kombucha. The probiotics created during fermentation assist with digestion. Prebiotic’s are fibers that feed the beneficial probiotics in our guts. Prebiotic’s include foods like raspberries, beans , legumes, garlic, onions and asparagus along with many others. Remember life is about balance and moderation —you don’t have to get rid of food you love —you just want to keep in my mind not to over indulge in treats so you maintain good gut health. The gut is linked to so many parts of our body, including our mind. When our gut microbiome is imbalanced it can affect our overall mood. The activity of our gut bacteria affect stress and anxiety, so we want to keep the good bacteria and get rid of the bad bacteria. Probiotics provide many health benefits, including for the brain which helps with our mental state. Research has shown prebiotic’s are associated with a reduction in anxiety-related behaviors. Gut microbes can help our bodies produce more serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that regulates our mood as well as levels of anxiety and happiness. Our diets are so important in so many aspects of our lives and making sure we’re keeping the right bacteria in our gut plays such a huge and direct role in our mental well-being. Listed below are three supplements you can choose from to jump-start your gut health journey.I absolutely love these supplements, my favorite is the “PB8 probiotic”. I’ll also add a few of my favorite gut shots and kombucha’s I drink occasionally to improve my digestive system.

I hope you find one of these products useful as you continue or begin your gut health journey.

All ways always with love,

Shakihya Monique
