Is Ghosting Okay?!

In today’s society the dating world is much different than our grandparents, hell even our parents generation. Meeting new people is so instant and accessible at our finger tips. Whether it’s social media, dating apps, or television shows geared towards finding love—we have the tools to meet and connect with just about anyone around the world—has this made us desensitized to prioritizing relationships, when we can so easily pick up our phones and swipe right to find the new love of our lives? Maybe so... that’s for you to decide. The idea of dating is getting to know someone on a romantic level in hopes of becoming exclusive, everyone you meet or hang out with won’t end up being your soulmate or “the one”. In fact many people often complain of being ghosted, this has become a hot topic on social media. Have you ever been ghosted? Have you ever ghosted someone? Is ghosting okay? The last question is subjective. As an adult I do believe that if you haven’t heard from a person by phone call or text soon after a date and they’re active on social media you should be able to decipher the lack of interest and be okay with no response. On the other hand if you’ve went on several dates with a person and established a connection I can see why an abrupt stop of communication would be off-putting. It’s common courtesy to tell someone you’re not interested and let them know you don’t want to move forward with getting to know them, but everyone will not feel warranted to do this. I think people should be upfront and clear but I also think if someone ghosts you, you shouldn’t internalize it or try to reach out asking for explanations if you only had one date together. That person has your telephone number and if they wanted to reach back out they would've. Whether you’ve done the ghosting yourself or been ghosted, I do believe there is no right or wrong person in this situation. Try your best to be transparent about your feelings towards a person, but also don’t beat yourself up over ghosting someone or being ghosted. The person who is meant for you won't mishandle you or leave you second guessing, so consider it a favor if a person doesn't continue the courtship or return mutual interest.

All ways always with love,
